Hi. I'm Mr. (Jay) Ankenbrand, an Instructional Aide at Dunlap Middle School. I am an assistant coach for sophomore and varsity football, as well as varsity basketball.
This is my 3rd year working at DMS and coaching at DHS. I taught PE at DVMS for 2 years.
Prior to Dunlap, I taught PE at Manual Academy for 1 year and at Macomb High School for 11 years. I've coached basketball and football since 2000.
My love of physical education started when I was young, growing up in Charleston, Illinois. I played a variety of sports: soccer, tennis, swimming, gymnastics. In High School, I played 2 years of baseball and 4 years of football and basketball. I went to Eastern Illinois University to become a teacher and there I also played 2 years of football.
In addition to sports, I also like to travel. My junior year in college, I studied abroad at a university in Finland. This inspired me to learn more about new places and cultures. My wife Catrina and I travel to as many places as we can on spring break and in the summers. Where ever we travel, we love to be active outdoors.
Check out some of my photos below doing my favorite activities.
